Credible Messengers: Mentor Raul Baez Explores Overcoming Adversity

Watch Raul Baez discuss overcoming adversity with students at Harlem Village Academy (12/1/15). Raul shares from experience. After a childhood marred by physical and sexual abuse, he ran away at thirteen, dropped out of school, began a 25 year drug addiction, and survived four near death experiences. Five years after completing a 12-year prison sentence for attempted murder, Raul has reunited with his grown children and is recently remarried; completed associates, bachelors, and masters degrees; owns three businesses; and actively mentors youth and ex-offenders.

A member of New Canaan Society’s Manhattan chapter, Raul volunteers as a School Mentor as part of NCS’s collaboration with Thrive Collective and Young Life Greater New York.
